Video 1: What Is Kristy's House?
We're often asked this question because people want to know what type of direct services we provide and how does mentoring and discipleship play out practically? This video captures the heart of what the issue is, the population with whom we work, and the services we provide. There is also a partial client testimony so you can hear from an actual woman who has allowed us to journey with her.
Video 2: Why Do We Focus on the Past?
Current behaviors may include prostitution, drug addiction, and others ways of acting out. But at Kristy's House, we're more concerned with the heart than with the behavior. Often times, childhood trauma is re-enacted over and over again in abusive relationships, destructive living, and sexuality. Only in diving into one's story and trauma of the past can one understand how those wounds play into their current lives. And only when we understand that the heart of all men is broken can we invite God in to heal us from the inside out.
Video 3: Isn't Prostitution a Choice?
Part of our goal at Kristy's House is to destroy the lies and fallacies about the nature of prostitution. Are there women who have not been sexually abused who choose to engage as prostitutes? Yes. But they are by far the exception and not the rule. All indicators point to the fact that the vast majority of those engaging in prostitution—even those who are not trafficked—have experienced trauma, often in the form of sexual abuse and emotional instability by their caregivers. Neuroscience is now discovering this actually has impact on the brain. Dan Allender, Ph.D., explains. See more from Dan Allender here.
Video 4: How is Kristy's House Different?
People are not bound by their trauma and circumstances. It really is amazing that God can use us through relationship to help heal both the heart (spiritual) and the brain (emotional and physical). There is no easy fix. The relationship takes a remarkable investment of time, intentionality, and shepherding. But, the rewards are, over time, amazing to behold. Dan Allender, PhD., explains more. Video 5: What Do Our Clients Think?
We are very protective of our clients. They have been exploited enough and we don't want to do any more harm. Therefore, we will not reveal clients' identities. We did allow a client to share some of her experience with Kristy's House anonymously, however, and we hope you find it inspiring. She's a beautiful woman who has been doing hard work for years now. And, Jesus continues to do a work in her.
Video 6: Community Partnerships
Kristy's House clients are referred from multiple different sources, but their decision to engage us is made voluntarily on their own will. One of these partnerships has been with IMPD and the courts who have supported our cause and the women who choose to pursue services with us. Undercover Vice Officer Sgt. "Steve" gives an example of how this sometimes plays out.
